Establishing and implementing a simple regular inspection and preventive maintenance plan for sprinkler irrigation pumps is crucial to ensuring their reliable operation throughout the irrigation season and for many years to come. This prevents problems before they occur and significantly reduces unexpected failures, making it the most efficient and economical way to manage equipment.


I. Quick Daily/Pre- and Post-Use Checks

These are habits integrated into daily operations that allow for timely detection of minor problems.


Before use: Check if the water source is sufficient, if there is any obvious debris in the inlet filter, and if the pipe connections are secure.


After use: Note any abnormal noises or vibrations during operation, and simply clean any mud or dirt from the pump body.


II. Monthly (or approximately every 100 hours of operation) Routine Inspection

Conduct a more detailed static inspection (always perform this after disconnecting the power).


Cleaning and visual inspection: Clean dust and weeds from the cooling grille and motor casing to ensure good heat dissipation. Check the pump body and piping for leaks and corrosion.

Pre-season commissioning maintenance:


Comprehensive cleaning: Thoroughly clean the inside and outside of the pump.

Thoroughly drain all water: This is essential for surface pumps (such as centrifugal pumps and self-priming pumps)! Open the drain plugs at the bottom of the pump body and the lowest point of the piping to drain all accumulated water and prevent freezing damage in winter.


Cleaning and Drying: After thorough cleaning, store in a dry and well-ventilated place.


Protection of Key Components: Apply anti-rust grease to exposed metal machined surfaces.


IV. Annual (or approximately every 500 hours of operation) Professional Inspection

Core components require more professional attention.


Check mechanical seals or packing: This is crucial for preventing leaks; replace them promptly if worn.


Check impeller and wear ring wear: Excessive wear will lead to a significant decrease in efficiency; replace if necessary.


Check bearing condition: If there is abnormal noise or play, arrange for replacement.


Calibrate pressure switches and safety valves (if equipped): Ensure accurate operation to protect the system.


V. Establish Maintenance Records and Spare Parts List

Simple Record Keeping: Prepare a small notebook to record the date, items checked, and problems found during each inspection and maintenance.


Prepare common wear parts: Such as O-rings, bearings, belts (if applicable), fuses, etc., for urgent needs.
